About this piece
Handwoven in the historic town of Boujad, located in the Haouz plains between the Middle Atlas Mountains and the Atlantic coast, this vintage rug is a rare example of structured symmetry. While many Boujad rugs are loved for their whimsical, asymmetrical designs, this masterwork employs a highly sophisticated grid layout—historically woven by only the most experienced master weavers. Woven entirely by hand from high-luster, hand-spun sheep's wool, this rug has been naturally aged to achieve a soft, deeply saturated patina. The dominant base color is a rich, warm wine-crimson that shifts beautifully in different lighting. The grid-lines and borders are woven in a striking combination of forest and moss greens, soft cream, and deep espresso brown, creating a frame for the intricate jewel-like orange and saffron diamond medallions.
