About this piece
Hailing from the legendary desert-fringe weaving capital of Taznakht, situated in the foothills of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, this rug is a spectacular showcase of flatweave artistry. Taznakht rugs are globally celebrated for using the finest, highly-lustrous local sheep’s wool and exceptionally vibrant, long-lasting natural dyes. Woven as a traditional Hanbel (flatweave), this piece is created using a tight, durable plain-weave technique. The artist then used an intricate supplementary-weft brocading method to "embroider" the dazzling array of geometric symbols directly into the loom. The base is a deep, fiery crimson red—a color traditionally sourced from madder root, symbolizing strength, warmth, and vitality. A Tapestry of Ancestral Symbols.
